The virus prompted a massive surge in outgoing traffic, also known as parasite traffic, which brought normal operations screeching to a halt. RTS was forced to suspend trading as it searched for the infected computer and attempted to repair the damage.
RTS said that the virus entered the system through an internet connected machine that had been set up to test some new software. Despite the infection RTS said that no data was lost and has tried to play down any fears that the virus might have exposed sensitive data to outside agencies.
