Rugged Samsung Galaxy S6 on the way?

Samsung Galaxy S6 Active appears on Samsung website.

By Alexander Sword

An official announcement of the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active could be on the way.

The device was listed on Samsung’s official website as a separate category of device, prompting a flurry of speculation on when the device might be released and what features it might have.

Earlier this week, pictures leaked to GSM Arena suggested that the handset would retain the camera and heart rate monitor of the S6, while moving its loudspeaker to the back. The source of the images allegedly claimed that the handset will carry a 3500mAh battery.

It had been suggested that Samsung might deliver a more durable version of the S6, which has dropped the waterproofing of the S5. Previously the Samsung S5 Active was released alongside the Galaxy S5, keeping most of its features but with better protection from damage.

Samsung’s Q4 2015 financial results showed a fall in net profit and revenues, but the company expected the S6 to drive new growth.

The South Korean electronics company is also seeing its lead as the leading smartphone vendor being eroded; recent statistics showed its sales in China plummeting to 9.6 million from 20.5 million to the benefit of competitors such as Apple.
