Rapid Technology Group Plc (RTG), the Dublin, Ireland point-of-sale (POS) technology company, is waiting to conclude a deal with one of the world’s largest retailers to install its point of sale (POS) system after a pilot project conducted earlier this year. In the meantime, the company’s figures for the year to June 30, show a net loss of 2m Irish pounds ($2.5m), up from a loss of 1.5m pounds ($1.9m) on revenue up 18.1% at 242,677 pounds ($310,650).

RTG says that since the early part of this year, it has been working to integrate its Screenkey terminal with IBM’s POS systems which is estimated to have one million units installed worldwide. Pilot installations have been tested over the past six months which RTG says has culminated in a very satisfactory outcome.

RTG says it has been in talks with IBM on the terms for a Customer Solutions Agreement that would establish the basis for a multinational procurement relationship but a final deal awaits the conclusion of negotiations with the major retailer.

The company’s Screenkey system allows users to navigate through layers of options on their screens using backlit colored LCD panels on certain keys. It is designed for POS applications where cashiers who would find using a mouse impractical.
