RPI REVEALS DETAILS OF FULL VGA VIRTUAL REALITY HEADSET

By CBR Staff Writer

Redmond Productions Inc’s RPI Advanced Technology Group, San Francisco, the company with the virtual reality glasses (CI No 2,460) has given a few more details of the product, a direct-connect VGA head-mount display unit for consumer and commercial virtual reality games, theatrical entertainment and tele-video applications. The display area is only 1 wide, which coincides with the size of ordinary glasses, and rather than convert VGA graphics to low-resolution NTSC television signals, the RPI display takes pure 640 by 480 VGA direct from the computer; no converter is needed and users can run VGA monitor and headset concurrently from the same board. The – presently monochrome only – product is offered only OEM, with a promise to beat any other vendor’s price-performance.
