Britain’s Royal Mail has announced Response EDI, a service designed to enable Electronic Data Interchange businesses to conduct electronic transactions with non-EDI suppliers. The service will involve non-EDI trading partners telephoning the Royal Mail’s Electronic Mail Centre. They will then use telephone touch-tone keypads or the Centre’s speech recognition capabilities to pass on a unique reference number contained in each message sent via EDIPost, the Mail’s service for converting EDI messages to paper for first class delivery. The system is being tried out by ICL Plc, and is expected to be fully available by the beginning of next year. Pricing details are not available yet.
