UK automaker Rover Group Ltd has purchased 50 licences of Grif SGML editor from Grif SA for its global Technical Information Management System, TIMS, which aims to integrate creation, management and distribution of technical information and its multi-lingual publication on several different media. Steve Anderson, TIMS project manager, said, Grif SGML Editor is a native SGML (the Standardised Generalised Mark-up Language superset of HyperText Mark-up Language) tool. Therefore, it presents obvious advantages in terms of performance over competing software, including products from Interleaf and Frame. Those products require translation of SGML into a proprietary format before you can edit them. GRIF products run equally well on a personal computer, which means a big reduction in costs and was an important determining factor for our company. Rover will adapt Grif SGML Editor to its specific needs using Grif Application Toolkit Environment. It will use the toolkit to edit SGML documents that are stored in an Ora cle database and managed with the software Life*CDM from Danish company Computer Resources International A/S. GRIF’s products are very promising, we have already developed a number of interesting multi-lingual applications, Anderson said. With the latest version of GATE, which we have just received, the integration possibilities are even greater.
