Social media provider Rounds is to integrate Vidyo’s video communication software into its free social media platform, allowing the Israeli company to provide HD quality video for subscribers.

The integrated solution, which is available on iOS, Android and the Web, is based on Vidyo’s scalable video coding (SVC) technology and will also include other capabilities in the near future, according to Rounds.

Dany Fishel, co-Founder and CEO of Rounds, said: "To achieve a truly engaging real-time social experience, there needs to be a balanced mix between the worlds of entertainment and communication.

"This strategic agreement with Vidyo now provides Rounds with the best infrastructure possible to deliver a unique, unparalleled social video communication experience. We believe this will significantly further our position as a leader in social video chat."

Ofer Shapiro, CEO and co-founder at Vidyo, added: "The integration of the VidyoWorks platform is yet another example of how Vidyo’s technology can easily be used by application developers to deliver high quality video experiences that scale to the masses. We believe this will support further growth of the Rounds platform."

This partnership comes not too long after Rounds recently closed another round of funding, bringing total financing for the firm to $10.5m (£6.4m).
