Fujitsu Ltd’s Ross Technology Inc has come out with a 72MHz HyperSparc central processor unit upgrade kits, making them available to users of Sparcstation 10s and 20s and Sparcserver 600MP machines. Ross reckons the CPUs offer up to four times the performance of the boxes’ original processors and claims the highest performance of any quad Sparc processor available. The company claims to have sold 1,500 HyperSparc upgrades between November last year and June this, to 300 customers worldwide, adding 200 customers in the second quarter, through direct and indirect channels that include 40 resellers. A single-processor part is priced at $4,188; a dual processor costs $7,656 and a four-way is $14,352.
