The Rolling Stones become the greatest rock ‘n’ roll band in cyberspace – c’mon, the gags about the oldest rock ‘n’ roll band in the world are getting as tired as Bill Wyman used to look – when they become the first to broadcast a concert live over the Internet this week: Thinking Pictures Inc is to broadcast the first five songs from the Stones’ show at the Dallas Cotton Bowl on Friday to anyone with the computer and communications equipment to receive the transmission – but don’t look for high-fidelity – it will run at six to 10 frames per second at a colour resolution of about 320 by 240 with 8-bit video; Sun Microsystems Inc is supplying financing for New York-based Thinking Pictures, as well as the Supersparc 10 workstation into which the video stream will be fed, and related hardware and expertise; transmission starts 3.30am Greenwich Mean Time on Saturday; if you want to know what you’ll be missing songs are likely to be Not Fade Away, Tumbling Dice, You Got Me Rocking, Shattered and Rocks Off.
