Rod Canion, ousted last week as chief executive of Compaq Computer Corp, has been followed out of the company by another co-founder, James Harris, senior vice-president of enginering, who has reportedly decided to retire at 47, and by Robert Vieau, senior vice-president of manufacturing, and Murray Francis, senior vice-president of corporate quality and materials (senior vice-presidents come just below officers and Compaq seems to have had rather a lot of them – normally a company has no more than two to four); as for Canion, he told the Houston Chronicle that he will take a sabbatical for at least six months, but then hopes to get involved in starting another firm – he says that several friends have called with business ideas, but he is putting them off for now – When you’re sad about something you have to work through the sadness.
