Be warned – over the next few weeks there will be lots of promotion for the permanent rock exhibition called Rock Circus in London’s Piccadilly Circus, which is the UKP10m, four years in development, project by The Tussauds Group to bring to life the story of rock and pop over the past four decades: in fact the exhibition is composed of a mere 13 bionic figures – four of them the Beatles, all of which move (slightly) with no more grace than Victorian clockwork automata; turns out that the state of the art technology behind the show is no more than a bog standard IBM Personal running the Ancor program developed by Electro Sonic Ltd of Woolwich which sends signals to the racks inside the figures to control their air pistons and make them move a little bit in front of you as you listen to their music through headphones; recommended only for myopic toddlers with gullible parents – but parents will be relieved to hear that while junior’s cans play full blast regardless, those for adults do include a volume control.
