Attending Software AG’s Innovation World 2015, Michelle Shuttleworth, director at Deloitte, presented six core technologies that the company has found in its Tech Trends research.
CBR sums up the mentioned technologies that have the potential to transform businesses.
1. Artificial Intelligence
Starting with artificial intelligence (AI), the ultimate goal for the technology is to be self-sufficient and self-taught.
Deloitte said AI is about simulating reasoning, developing knowledge, and allowing computers to set and achieve goals through a wide range of techniques including machine learning.
2. Additive Manufacturing
Additive manufacturing is all about 3D printing and how this technology is democratising the manufacturing process and changing what people can physically create.

With this technology, businesses will be able to create all sorts of things, with recent advances in science materials opening the way for new manufacturing techniques, including the printing of electric circuits, composite structures and biological matter.
3. Industrial Biology
Leading on from the printable biological matter, industrial biology is also a technology that will revolutionise medical science.
The consulting firm has found that as life sciences are becoming digitised this allows for genetic engineering, including the manipulation of DNA for example.
Ultimately, industrial biology will lead to genetic mapping, which Deloitte said will help understand and create custom solutions designed for an individual’s specific genome, targeting a specific ailment.
4. Robotics
In its report, Deloitte said that the impact of robotics to virtually every single business is no longer a question of ‘if’ but ‘when’.
It said that the next robotics frontier is machines which can perform tasks that involve gathering and interpreting data in real-time.
Deloitte warns that over the next decade, the rules of how work gets done may have to be rewritten.
5. Quantum Computing
Shuttlewort showed great enthusiasm for quantum computing, which could have the capability to completely re-transform the world in all senses.
In its study, the company says that advances in raw computing power and connectivity were responsible for the internet revolution and are now making IoT possible.
Quantum computing is an evolution of this, and will potentially expand what is computationally possible.
