NeTpower Inc does not capitalize the T in its name for nothing: the name is intended instantly to conjure up the image of Microsoft Corp’s flagship enterprise operating system, and having come out with Windows NT workstations built around the MIPS Technologies Inc R4400 and Digital Equipment Corp Alpha RISCs, it yesterday announced a line of Windows NT workstations built around the Intel Corp Pentium Pro, bundled with graphics software to take on Silicon Graphics Inc. All of which is a little ironic since the company was founded by Robert Miller, who was chief executive of MIPS from 1987 to 1992, when Silicon Graphics acquired the company. Despite his company’s first two product lines, Miller told the Wall Street Journal that the RISC heyday is over now.
