Rochester, Kent-based Diamond Point International Europe Ltd launched Rimfire 5500, a high performance SCSI peripheral interface that can be transparently integrated into any personal computer AT-bus system: the board has its own 80186 processor and an on-board BIOS EPROM enables booting from SCSI disks; an on-board floppy disk controller, internal connector and cable provide support for the standard AT floppy drives, while the SCS port caters for SCSI-2 tagged messages, enabling use of the new higher performance SCSI-2 devices; it offers simultaneous asynchronous and synchronous transfers at data rates of 2Mb and 5Mb per second respectively and is priced at UKP490.
