Operating income was $48.8m compared to last year’s $10.7m loss, while net income was $55m, compared to last year’s $8.2m loss. This resulted in earnings per share of $0.28. Revenues were split 68% for handhelds, 19% for services, 9% for software licenses and 4% other.
RIM said the figures exceeded its expectations. The company raised forecasts for its second quarter, and now expects revenue of $290m to $310m, with earnings per share of $0.32 to $0.37 diluted. For the third quarter, it expects revenue of $340m to $360m, with diluted earnings of $0.35 to $0.40.
