RICOH TO RAISE OUTPUT OF OPTICAL DISK DRIVES FOR US MARKET

By CBR Staff Writer

Ricoh Co will be in volume production of optical disk drives for the US market within the calendar year, raising output to 5,000 a month; despite the high yen, the majority of optical disk drives on US market are from Japanese makers and Ricoh supplies both DEC and Apple under OEM contracts from its plant in Japan; it also plans to hike exports of removable cartridge drives under that DMA licence.
