RICOH SETS UK, FRENCH LABS, DOES Q&A SPEECH SYSTEM

By CBR Staff Writer

Ricoh Co is planning to establish research laboratories in the UK, France and the US to do development work on high-tech applications in fields such as data communications and artificial intelligence. The research centre of Ricoh’s US subsidiary in New Jersey has tied up with Symantec Inc of California to develop a speech data retrieval system that will combine Symantec’s Q&A natural language database query system with Ricoh’s speech recognition system to create a retrieval system that does not require keyboard input. Prototypes for both English and German have been made.
