Ricoh unveils portable video conferencing system

P3000 Unified Communication System can connect up to 20 participants at once with the push of a button

By CBR Staff Writer

Electronic products manufacturer Ricoh Americas has introduced a new portable videoconferencing system, the Ricoh P3000 Unified Communication System, which is as easy to use similar to a mobile phone.

The P3000 Unified Communication System is a 1.6 inches, or 40 mm tablet-sized package containing a camera, microphone, speaker, network connectivity and a push-button console. It is based on the H.264/SVC video compression standard, which adjusts resolution, frame rate and compression to accommodate available bandwidth.

It includes a high resolution 94-degree wide angle lens that allows multiple people to be viewed in a room and a variety of screen layouts are available, enabling up to nine participants can appear on the screen at one time.

Ricoh’s new device can connect up to 20 participants at once with the push of a button and also provides the security and audiovisual quality of fixed-room videoconferencing systems.

It allows users to create a video conference room wherever they are, and offers secure, encrypted conferencing for small and medium-sized businesses.

The new system takes about 30 seconds to start a video conference and selects participants from the address book, push connect and begins conferencing. It offers secure video, voice and data communication capabilities.

P3000 Unified Communication System allows users to initiate a real-time video and audio conferencing session in the cloud, from wherever they are, whether a traditional office, meeting room or home office. It also lets conference participants share documents, spreadsheets, presentations and desktops as they confer.
