Rhomobile introduces open source sync server ‘RhoSync 2.0’

Enables users to access data on smartphone even when offline or disconnected

By CBR Staff Writer

Rhomobile, a provider of open source framework for enterprise mobility, has introduced RhoSync 2.0, a new version of the open source sync server for enterprise data.

The new RhoSync 2.0 is a standalone server that keeps enterprise application data current and accessible on users’ smartphones even when offline or disconnected.

The company said that the version 2.0 is a scalable sync server that is available as a hosted Software as a Service on the RhoHub hosted service.

The new offering is designed to target the modern smartphone, and is the only sync server to use the modern smartphone’s built-in push APIs as featured on the iPhone since the 3.0 SDK and the latest (RIM) BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES).

The use of push-based sync allows mobile applications to receive near real-time data updates while ensuring that battery life is not drained on the device through polling.

Through RhoSync, users can read and work with their information when offline or disconnected; and can interact with data locally before submitting data changes to enterprise application backends, which is a key feature in useful enterprise mobile applications, the company said.

RhoSync enables mobile app developers to create data-intensive informational applications as is an open source sync server under the GPL license, through which developers are not ‘locked-in’ to proprietary vendor technology.

The version 2.0 features include scalable data sync by using Redis for server data caching and differencing; support for Objective C for iPhone development; available for production runtime hosting via RhoHub; a synchronisation server to use native smartphone push; and is a web services and SaaS focused sync server.
