The module will transmit data over Fibre Channel or IP, between two or more of Revivio’s existing Continous Protection System 1200 appliances. When linked this way, any of the appliances can provide a copy of the replicated data exactly as it existed at any moment in time.
The CPS 1200 is high-end CDP product. Based on a third-party real-time operating system, it provides continuous block-level data backups for systems recording hundreds of thousands of transactions per second, according to Revivio.
Revivio originally pitched its technology as time-addressed storage. Now the company is also using the widely adopted term CDP (continuous data protection), which it says it coined. The CPS 12000 became generally available last year. Revivio will not say how many sales it has made, but claims four or five reference customers.
Revivio quoted IDC analyst John McArthur who said that the CDP market is being driven by customer demand for sophisticated disaster recovery systems.
