There’s this splendid motor racing game that has all the thrills and spills – and noise – of the racetrack, and one more plus – a hot key that you press when your boss comes to investigate the noise, which instantly quells the game and puts up an innocent Windows display on your screen, and with its offer of Quattro Pro 4.0 for MS-DOS bundled with its new Quattro Pro for Windows, Borland International Inc seems to be taking a leaf out of the game’s book: so many people have persuaded their bosses that they must have an 80486 machine – lots of them back when 80486 boxes were expensive – with the plea that they need the power to run Windows, so that they can’t really refuse the Windows version of Quattro Pro when it comes along – but everyone knows that when nobody’s around, serious users will kick out the Windows version and revert to the clean simplicity and greater responsiveness of the MS-DOS version.
