The leaders of tech innovation in the US have been revealed thanks to numbers highlighting the top patent recipients of 2013.
IBM has emerged top of the list for the 21st consecutive year by filing over 6,800 approved patents. Samsung and Canon took second and third place respectively.
The data, provided by IFI Claims Patent Services, has a distinct lack of presence from tech giants including Amazon, Google, EMC, HP, Oracle and Symantec, as they have been focussing on customer service this past year as opposed to innovation.
In fact, IBM’s total exceed the combined total of these six companies as it embraced a diverse range of innovations from its Watson system, to utilising Big Data and cognitive systems.
