Repercussions from the Gulf War – Oxford-based Research Machines Plc, RM, has secured an order worth UKP3.9m to supply Nimbus networked microcomputers to Kuwaiti schools: Research Machines will be working in conjunction with the British Council and the construction firm, John Laing Plc, for the Kuwaiti Ministry of Education: 2,500 Nimbus M Series 286 personal computers will be installed and connected to about 100 networks in the 102 secondary schools and 398 primary/intermediate schools, which were stripped clean during the war: the contract covers supply and installation of over 104 RM Net 3.1 networks systems, each served by a SystemBase 486 floorstanding server with 300Mb hard disk and 8Mb; networked software will include Windows 3, Word for Windows, Excel, Superbase 4 and PageMaker 3, together with an Arabic version of Microsoft Works and educational packs.
