Computer Associates International Inc has produced a set of figures putting it as market leader in the backup and storage market last year in terms of revenue. The figures, based on research done by Strategic Research Corp of California, show Computer Associates gained 35% of the $1bn market last year, which it claims is more than double that of nearest competitor Seagate Technologies Inc and more than the business of Seagate, Legato Systems Inc and IBM Corp combined. The report apparently shows that the company fared even better in the Window NT backup field, gaining almost 50% of that market. Strategic Research attributes the success to the combination of the strengths of ARCserve for NT and NetWare, and Unicenter TNG. The report projects that by 2002, more than 60% of network backup revenue will come from Windows NT.
