Meta Group expects the rise of intranets and information availability to drive demand for commoditized document management products which include access control, versioning, indexing and internet publishing at prices of $100 per seat and below. The pricing of current high-end products from the likes of Documentum, Open Text, Altris, NovaSoft or infrastructure- demanding groupweb products such as Lotus Domino.Doc and Novell GroupWise are way off this radar screen, it observes. However new products from the likes of IntraNet Solutions, Xerox, Interleaf and Infodata are beginning to offer unlimited use and server- based pricing options in the range of $20,000 to $30,000. Meta thinks this trend will put the squeeze on middle-market products such as PC DOCS, Saros and InterTech, but enable high-end vendors to continue to sell strategically, albeit at lower prices.
