REPORT SAYS 45% PLAN NETWORK COMPUTER BUY WITHIN 2 YEARS

By CBR Staff Writer

A piece of research by Yankee Group Inc finds that there is much more interest in Network Computers than Microsoft Corp would have you believe, with 19% of the community it polled planning to buy this year, 45% within two years. The attraction however, is not lower cost of ownership but the old IBM Corp shibboleth, a single central point of control. On the other hand Computer Intelligence finds that US retail computer sales are at last picking up and looking interesting again – but the lure is not MMX Pentiums, but machines at last priced at under $1,000, which are just beginning to bring computers into reach of a vast new untapped population.
