The LS-120 superdisk replacement floppy contender led by Imation Corp with help from Compaq Computer Corp and OR Technology Inc, can now be used on older PCs, through a new ATA Pro controller card launched by SuperDIsk consortium member Mitsubishi Electronics America Inc and Micro Firmware Inc. Previously, the BIOS of older PCs did not support the installation of the LS-120 drive as a bootable A:drive. The LS- 120 provides 120Mb of data storage while maintaining compatibility with 1.44Mb, 3.5 inch floppies. The card works on PCs using 286 through Pentium microprocessors and an open ISA bus. Meanwhile, Iomega Corp has launched an internal, $99 version of its ATAPI/IDE 100Mb Zip drive. The product is aimed at sub $1,000 PCs.
