Cellular semiconductor applications provider Renesas Mobile has partnered with visual computing technologies firm NVIDIA to jointly develop a platform reference application based on Renesas Mobile’s SP2531 triple mode LTE modem and the NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor.
The new platform reference application enables OEM customers to build on the technology advances in current 3G NVIDIA-powered devices to create next-generation LTE products with an accelerated time to market.
Tegra 3 features a new patent-pending Variable SMP (vSMP) architecture with a fifth lower-power "companion" core, a PC-class CPU and 3X faster GPU with stereo 3D support to deliver the combination of improved performance and extended battery life.
Tegra 3 delivers up to 5x the performance of the first dual-core processor, Tegra 2.
The modem technology in the SP 2531 delivers improved throughput and low power multi-mode FDD and TDD-LTE Category 3 capabilities.
NVIDIA Mobile Business general manager Michael Rayfield said teaming Renesas Mobile’s LTE technology with Tegra 3 helps NVIDIA partners create quad-core LTE mobile devices with improved performance and long battery life.
