REGULATORS ARE GETTING TOUGH WITH US WEST

By CBR Staff Writer

The regulators are getting tough with US West Inc – the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission in Olympia, Washington state has filed a complaint against the frim’s Pacific Northwest Bell unit alleging that the phone company may be earning excessive profits, adding that the complaint will prompt a complete investigation of the unit’s revenues and expenses: if the company is found to be making excessive profits, it may be ordered to cut its rates – back in 1987, the Commission ordered Pacific Northwest to cut rates by $51.4m.
