Westborough, Massachusetts-based RedTail paid an undisclosed sum for the Xpress Data Synchronization suite of products and services from Computer Horizons Corp, an IT services and staffing provider.

Xpress assists trading partners in synchronizing product data directly through source data pools like UCCnet and Transora. It then synchronizes this data with other trading partners that communicate with the GS1 Global Registry. The suite is comprised of several components – Messenger, Conveyor and Enabler (for SAP) – and related services.

RedTail says it will integrate the Xpress technology into its electronic trading system offerings which support data interchange standards that are emerging around global data synchronization (GDS), product information management (PIM) hubs and RFID middleware.

The Xpress technology was originally developed by the now defunct e-commerce pioneer Commerce One and the Uniform Code Council (UCC).

As part of the deal RedTail is picking up all of Computer Horizon’s existing Xpress contracts and customer agreements. Several key Xpress employees are also being bought on board. Both companies have also agreed to engage in a channel relationship.

Mid-market firms account for over 300,000 suppliers in the US alone.
