Essentially, Windows Mobile 6 promises to take more desktop features, from Vista, to mobile devices, said the company at the 3GS conference in Barcelona, Spain.

Version 6 would show emails and other Office documents on a small mobile screen just as they would appear on a desktop. For example, emails could be viewed in their HTML format and users can access live online links from smartphones. Word, Excel and Powerpoint documents also could be viewed and edited as they appear on the desktop, according to Redmond.

The software would integrate more deploy with its Live online services, notably online messaging. This also would enable users to send images and files from their smartphones, as well as record and send voice mails. It also means Microsoft’s Direct Push Technology is possible, including automatic Outlook synchronization for contacts, calendars and tasks using Exchange Server.

The OS also promises new security features, including storage card encryption and certificate options. Also, a device can have its contents remotely erased in the event of it being stolen or lost.

And users can access enterprise business applications remotely thanks to mobile versions of the .Net Compact Framework and SQL Server being added to the OS.
