REDESIGNED MCP/AS OPERATING SYSTEM GIVES 20% IMPROVEMENT IN PERFORMANCE OF UNISYS’ A15 MAINFRAMES

By CBR Staff Writer

The 20% average improvements in performance on the new models of the top-end Unisys Corp A15 mainframes (CI No 658) are achieved by a redesign of the new MCP/AS operating system so as to enable the CPU to manage memory allocation and virtual memory so as to reduce the amount required by the operating system: the A15 Models F, H, I, J, K, L, M and N are replaced by Models FX, a single-processor system; the HX, IX and JX, all two-processor machines; the KX and LX, with three processors; and the four-processor MX and NX; maximum main memory is also doubled on the top models and purchase prices range from $2.9m for an A15FX to $8.4m for an A15NX; US deliveries of the new machines are immediate.
