The RHCSS is the third of Raleigh, North Carolina-based Red Hat’s certifications, and has been launched as part of its ongoing Security in a Networked World Strategy, which was launched in August to focus on proving the security of the Linux operating system.
RHCSS is claimed to be the world’s first Linux security certification and covers security administration topics such as securing network services, creating directory services and authentication, as well as single sign-on.
Firewall and VPN configuration and certificate management are also offered as specializations, where there is a requirement for security policy administration using SELinux, the National Security Association’s Security Enhanced Linux project, which was first implemented in Red Hat’s Fedora Core 2, and then Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4.
The security certification focuses on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4, as well as the Red Hat Directory Server and Red Hat Certification System that it acquired from America Online Inc in September 2004.
RHCSS joins the Red Hat Certified Engineer and Red Hat Certified Architect programs already on offer from Red Hat’s Global Learning Services business.
