Shares in Linux vendor Red Hat Software Inc continued their strong showing on Friday as the stock, which made a debut on Nasdaq Wednesday, rose a further 17% to close at $85.25. The shares traded as high as $90.6875 on volume of 8.89 million shares. Signaling investor confidence in the company and the Linux operating system as a whole, Red Hat more than tripled in its first day of trading Wednesday and rose another 40% on Thursday. The Durham, North Carolina-based company sold six million shares at $14 each in its initial public offering and Friday’s closing price amounted to a gain of more than 508% in three days.
