Just discharged from bankruptcy, Atlanta, Georgia-based modem- maker Hayes Microcomputer Products Inc will set up a representative office in Peking later this month, the Xinhua news agency said: China would be the next major consumer of Hayes products because of its growing market for data communications products; Hayes predicted fast growth in China’s data telecommunications industry over the next five years, with public and special networks expanding and the number of individual users soaring ; China has said it will open the Internet nationwide by the end of June and the Chinanet Chinese Internet, is expected to cover 30 cities across the country; China has also launched two national public data networks, the China Packet Exchange Data Network and Digital & Data Network, and a dozen special nets.
