Stronger PC sales has boosted Intel’s third quarter revenue by 8% to $14.6bn compared to the corresponding quarter last year.

Intel’s PC Client Group revenue reached $9.2bn, up 9%; Data Center Group generated $3.7bn, reporting 16% revenue growth; IoT Group revenue dropped by 14% to $530m; and generated $558m via Software and services operating segments, which rose by 2% from last year.

Intel CEO Brian Krzanich said: "We are pleased by the progress the company is making.

"We achieved our best-ever revenue and strong profits in the third quarter.

"There is more to do, but our results give us confidence that we’re successfully executing to our strategy of extending our products across a broad range of exciting new markets."

However, the mobile business continues to be concern for the company which generated an operating loss of $1bn during the quarter compared to $810m it recorded during the corresponding quarter last year.

Mobile and Communications Group, which supplies chips for smartphones and tablets recorded a revenue of $1m, down from $353m generated a year ago.

The unit shipments of processors for PCs rose 15%, while sales of microprocessors and other products for notebook computers increased by 21% during Q3.
