Mexico’s Zapatista National Liberation Army is using the Internet to wage a war against the Mexican Government, the Washingtom Post reports. The rebels are transmitting their statements to human rights groups via bulletin boards such as PeaceNet, Chiapas-List, Mexpaz and Mexico 94 in an effort to enlist support for their cause. Mexico’s President, Ernest Zedillio Ponce de Leon, announced plans to capture the rebels’ leader last week and within hours his statement, together with his office facsimile number had been spread across the Internet prompting activists to fax him with pro-rebel support messages. The Zapatista’s leader sends messages via a laptop carried in a backpack which he plugs into the lighter socket of his pick-up truck.
