Seattle media delivery specialist RealNetworks Inc has won the support of 100 technology companies for its next-generation RealSystem G2. Unveiled at this week’s RealNetworks Conference ’98, G2 sports improved video and audio compression for carriage on an all-new transport system. The company, formerly known as Progressive Networks Inc, is trumpeting G2’s openness, extensibility and support for industry standards including Real Time Streaming Protocol (RTSP) and Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language (SMIL). The industry has responded in kind. Vendors pledging support for G2 range from establishment players Microsoft, Digital Equipment Corp, Adobe Systems, Macromedia and Mitsubishi to up-and-comers Cosmo Software, Allaire, NetObjects and Australia’s Sausage Software.
