RealNetworks Inc, the Seattle-based provider of web-based audio and video delivery technology, claims that its beta release of Realjukebox, which enable users to acquire, play and manage their music collections, is the biggest breakthrough in music listening since the Walkman. With more than five million unique users since its release just ten weeks ago, RealJukebox is one of the most rapidly adapted software products ever, claimed chairman and CEO Rob Glaser. His comments came as RealNetworks reported a net loss of $270,000 for the second quarter to June 30 down from a loss of $2.5m on revenue that rose 86.2% to $28m; mid-term net losses are $1m down from losses of $13.4m on revenue 87.1% higher at $51.5m.
