The companies said yesterday that software from both firms would be integrated and offered as a joint package for implementation in-house, or as a hosted service from either RealNetworks or IBM Global Services.
Components of the offering will include RealNetworks’ Helix Universal Server streaming software and Helix DRM rights management system, as well as IBM’s WebSphere Commerce, WebSphere Digital Media Enabler and DB2 Content Manager.
The end result will be a system that can let companies create, protect and deliver on demand consumer digital audio and video services. Components not provided, such as subscription systems and security, can be integrated via an API, the firms said.
