The US government has given the go ahead for Raytheon Co’s proposed $9.5bn acquisition of General Motor Corp’s Hughes Electronics Corp division (CI No 3,072). There was a possibility back in June that the Pentagon would ask for changes to be made concerning the terms of the purchase by the Lexington, Massachusetts company, owing to worries about the concentration of electronic brains and sensors used in missiles (CI No 3,159). But now Raytheon has been given the all clear by the Department of Justice to create a company of some 120,000 employees, generating an anticipated $20bn in sales.
