Raspberry Pi-powered Dog-to-English translator hits funding goal

Collar translates 'mental state' of dog to owner.

By Ben Sullivan

A Dog-to-English translator has successfuly passed its crowdfunding target on IndieGoGo.

The ‘No More Woof’ headset is powered by a Raspberry Pi, and the Scandinavian inventors of the device claim it is able to translate a range of thoughts such as hunger, the need to pee and curiosity.

The Scandinavian Nordic Society for Invention and Discovery reached its$10,000 funding goal with 50 days to spare and says it will ship the first devices out to backers in April 2014.

The headset-like device is made up of EEG recorders that are connected to a Raspberry Pi and speaker. The inventors claim that they have seen patterns in a dog’s thoughts, and identified a few major ones which are able to be translatedinto a meaning humans can understand by the device.

The device can currently only translate from ‘dog’ into English, but the makers say Spanish, Mandarin and French languages will be added later on. The ultimate goal of the project would be to develop two-way communication with dogs, say the inventors.

Watch a video of the device here.

CBR recently compiled a list of the coolest Raspberry Pi DIY projects, and this should dhave definitely been on it!
