RANCHO BERNARDO NO GO, SO UNISYS MAY SHUT EAGAN PLANT

By CBR Staff Writer

The over-capacity in semiconductor design and manufacturing at Unisys Corp is becoming a pressing problem, and the company’s solution, to pull the Sperry Eagan, Minnesota facility off the market and sell the Burroughs Rancho Bernardo, California unit, has not worked. With no takers for Rancho Bernardo, Unisys has turned its attention back to Eagan. The asking price is down to $50m, with a guaranteed $100m in purchases from the buyer, but if no-one steps forward by mid-year, the MOS and bipolar unit, hit by quality control snags, may be shut.
