Rambus, a technology licensing company, has renewed an agreement with Japan-based electronics company Toshiba to allow the latter license patents covering certain computer chips.

The five-year agreement includes Toshiba’s products with dynamic random-access memory (DRAM) memory controllers for SDR, DDR, DDR2, DDR3, and other DRAM devices.

As per the licensing agreement, Toshiba will pay Rambus royalties for shipment of its product with DRAM memory controllers.

Rambus licenses its patented technology for accelerating performance of memory chips, including the DRAM chips used in many consumer electronic devices.

Rambus Semiconductor Business Group senior vice president and general manager Sharon Holt said they are very pleased to continue their long and valuable relationship with Toshiba, who soon after their founding became Rambus’ first licensee.

However, Rambus did not reveal financial terms for the licensing agreement.
