Fashion designer Ralph Lauren is launching a next generation workout shirt PoloTech smartshirt that is capable of tracking the activities of the wearer.
Starting August 27, fashion conscious fitness junkies will be able to buy the smartshirt for $295. It features real-time biometric technology paired with an iPhone.
The fabric includes silver fibers woven into it for monitoring heart rate, breathing depth and balance, calories burned, steps taken, energy output, and stress levels.
The information is then gathered and processed in a detachable "black box" present in the shirt. The box is made of five connectors and a 3D accelerometer that captures intensity of movement based on three g-force measurements.
Users will be able to view the data through the PoloTech app, which will offer live biometrics, adaptive workouts and more.
The shirt is made of 70% polyester, 21% nylon, and 9% spandex. It can be washed after removing the black box.
Ralph Lauren corporate communications executive vice-president David Lauren said: "The Ralph Lauren PoloTech shirt will change the way you look at fashion and apparel.
"It will give you knowledge you can use to lead a better life.
"This is a bridge between technology, fitness and style that approaches wellness and well-being in comprehensive and complementary ways. It will touch many parts of your life."
