Vancouver, British Columbia-based Rainmaker Imaging Corp has bought Eastman Kodak Co’s Cineon digital imaging systems for film and video. The system will enable Rainmaker Imaging to offer scanning, digital compositing and image manipulation ser vices. Rainmaker’s purchase includes a Cineon Genesis 35 Digi tal Film Scanner, three Cineon image computing workstations and Cineon digital imaging software, designed specifically for re solution-independent work. Kodak’s Genesis table-top scanner is designed to retain the image quality of original film during conversion to digital form. The Cineon workstation is built on a Silicon Graphics Inc Onyx system. Kodak’s open architecture design will mean that Rainmaker artists can use Cineon’s integ rated compositing and image retouching software, third-party software packages or their own custom software to composite and digitally manipulate images. Rainmaker Interactive, a new com pany, will offer multimedia authoring and software development, while Rainmaker Imaging will provide a full range of high-resol ution special effects and other digital post-production servi ces, including compositing, titling, scratch and cable removal.
