RAILWAYS CLUB LOOKS INTO POSSIBLILITY OF BUILDING PAN-EUROPEAN TELCOMMS NETWORK ALONG TRACKS

The Union Internationale des Chemins de Fer European railways club is considering a plan to build a pan-European telecommunications network along their tracks to compete with the PTTs, the Financial Times reports: the paper says several firms, including Cable & Wireless Plc and Racal Telecommunications Plc, and US carriers, have been approached as possible partners to run any network that might emerge.
