The agreement paves the way for a closer relationship between the two companies and creates a framework for Railtrack to take advantage of the high-tech solutions offered by AEA Technology more quickly and efficiently. The alliance will also provide Railtrack with a gateway to services available from other AEA Technology businesses involved in the development and supply of new high technology products to government and blue-chip companies around the world.

Railtrack already uses AEA Technology software to manage track quality and the Low Adhesion Warning System (LAWS) that uses an on-board computer and global positioning satellites to identify problems such as leaves on the line.

The partnership will initially last for three years with an option to extend for a further two years providing a framework for longer term resources management and alignment of development plans.

Welcoming the deal, Railtrack’s Director, Contract and Supply David Meek commented: AEA Technology lead the way in the innovative solutions they offer to the industry’s problems. This agreement is a huge boost to our Supply Chain Initiative and guarantees Railtrack has access to the best technology and people.

John Wood, of AEA Technology, said: This all embracing agreement is the first of its kind in the industry and a landmark in further developing the relationship between Railtrack and AEA Technology. We will be working closely with Railtrack to develop innovative processes and technology that will result in an improved service for rail passengers.
