Radius Inc, the Sunnyvale, California based provider of digital video software systems, has begun shipping the Windows 95 version of PhotoDV. PhotoDV is a still-capture offering for DV camcorders and tape decks with IEEE 1394 ports. It uses QuickTime 3.0 to deliver digital images to PC users for use on the web or in print and ships with Adobe Photoshop 4.0 LE for still image capture and manipulation in Windows 95. Additional features include a built-in ‘re-sizer’ that lets users capture images in different resolutions; a selective de-interlacing algorithm to analyze the captured DV frame and intelligently remove motion artifacts while maintaining image detail; and three different capture modes to let users grab one or more pictures manually or automatically at specified intervals to make it possible to create virtual reality movies. PhotoDV provides control over the camcorder from the computer so users can quickly select individual images from the 100,000 frames stored on a one-hour digital video cassette tape. An automatic search feature analyzes the digital video data stream to determine where each clip starts and stops, allowing users to easily review a tape.
