Radius Inc, Sunnyvale, California Macintosh add-on boards and software specialist, has diversified with the formation of rPC, an independent business unit focused on delivering Radius graphics and multimedia technology to the iAPX-86 personal computer market. Rick Schrameck, who founded RDI Computer Corp, developer of the first portable computer based on Sun Microsystem Inc’s Sparc microprocessor and Solaris operating system will be general manager.Radius reckons that as well as being able to exploit its Macintosh graphics and multimedia skills in the bigger iAPX-86 market, it will be able to achieve economies of scale as both sides move to the Peripheral Component Interconnect bus. The new company plans to offer a complete line of graphics and multimedia video boards aimed at both the high-end desktop publisher and the average personal computer user. It has been previewing FireStorm192, a 192-bit graphics accelerator based on S3 Inc technology. It will offer 24-bit true colour resolution at 1,600 by 1,200, rPC promises.
